Nasty!

nasty

There is nothing wrong with being direct and saying what you mean but when you become mean and nasty it just makes you appear unpleasant. And who wants to be known as unpleasant?!

It sometimes takes a deep breath and some thought before speaking especially when the moment is contentious but if you say what you mean you will always get a better response.

What do you think?

I think the important differences are 1) be sure you’re coming from a position of respect for every person and 2) if your words might be seen as critical, go out of you way to first assure the other person/people that you have respect for them. Not just “with all due respect…” but more like “I can imagine you’re (angry/concerned/dissapointed etc…) about this, and I would be too. My perspective is…” Honest and fair and not accusatory or blaming.
